Rosier
Elle veille encore
Description
Formerly known as « Les poules à Colin », the group now known as « Rosier » redefines Quebec’s living heritage through a more modern lens. With their new album and show « Elle veille encore », to be released in fall 2024, they paint a multifaceted portrait of women in society, past and present. Through hundreds of folklore archives consulted and analyzed, Rosier focused on an omnipresent theme – that of the mother figure and the mother-child relationship.
Their new sound signature features a careful balance between folk-trad sounds (traditional melodies or lyrics) and instrumentation firmly rooted in indie. By blending the pop textures of synthesizers, and the rock tones of electric guitars with more traditional instruments (acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle), with lyrics rich in Franco-Canadian living heritage, « Rosier » creates a bridge between the stories of yesterday and today.
Made up of Béatrix Méthé (vocals, fiddle and synthesizers), Sarah Marchand (vocals, piano and keyboards), Marie Savoie-Levac (bass), Éléonore Pitre (acoustic and electric guitar, backing vocals), Colin Savoie-Levac (Marie’s brother, on guitar, banjo, lap steel, feet and backing vocals) and accompanied by a drummer, the band has been sharing this Quebecois heritage around the world for over a decade.
Biography
Folk at its core and endowed with a great affection for detail, the Montreal-based band « Rosier » evolves gracefully without following the prescribed recipe of its era. Halfway between tradition and modernity, « Rosier » takes over an audacious approach where traditional songs become the intimate accomplice of well-crafted indie-folk-pop-rock music. Their direction: one where the unheard meets the existing, and stories passed down from generation to generation are rejuvenated with a contemporary twist.
With a compelling collection of music, 2 Canadian Folk Music Awards nominations (Folk Album of the Year, Pushing the Boundaries Award), over 2 million streams and ten years active as a band, the bilingual and mostly feminine band march to the beat of their own drum: alternating between both French and English languages, touring worldwide and between acoustic and electric soundscapes.
They have toured locally and internationally. Some of their notable performances include: the Folk Alliance International (USA); New Colossus Festival (USA); Coup de coeur francophone (Canada); Edmonton Folk Festival (Canada); TSB Festival Of Lights (New Zealand); Rocky Mountain Folks Festival (USA); Port Fairy Folk Festival (Australia); Tonder Folk Festival (Denmark); Festival Pause-Guitare (France); Bardentreffen Festival (Germany); Itinerari Folk Festival (Italy); Bromyard Folk Festival (UK) and the Jeux de la Francophonie (Abidjan, Ivory Coast).
