BIO
Part poet, part philosopher, part storyteller - and in another life a teacher - singer-songwriter Alexandre Poulin is a plural artist with a singular destiny, far removed from the media and established paths. This desire to remain true to himself and to the way he tells his story takes on its full scope in performance, which has earned him an audience of unconditional fans as well as a multitude of awards in Quebec and Europe. Already, in 2008, his self-titled debut album received rave reviews, in addition to a first nomination at the ADISQ and a place of choice in the charts of radio stations across Quebec.
His intergenerational questions and the portraits he paints then find an echo all the way to Europe, where the tour of his second album - Une lumière allée - is performed at over 150 times. Rooted in folk music, this second album will enable Poulin to take his personal style a little further, both musically and in terms of the lyrics, which are often constructed like little stories without a chorus, and make the author's trademark. After these three years on the road, Alexandre then co-directed Le mouvement des maréesa third album oscillating between folk and lyrical songs, where he tells the human story in a way that is both sensitive and lucid. In France, the reception of the album was such that he was invited to appear on the TV show On n'est pas couché and other prestigious TV shows.
Then, it is in the heart of winter and in the middle of the forest that his fourth album, Les temps sauvages, is released. Its success came quickly: it was nominated for a Félix award for Folk Album of the Year and over 100 sold-out shows. Three years later, Nature humaine - his fifth album, scheduled for release on November 7, 2019 - enables Poulin to explore with accuracy and curiosity what makes our deepest nature. With this album, Alexandre opens himself to a more melodic musical universe, while vocal research and an exploration of more electric tonalities give new life to his lyrics. At once folk and modern, this new sound brings a richness and breadth that harmonizes naturally with the style for which the artist is famous.
