Mathieu Bourret discovered the piano at a very young age. Throughout his life, he develops a bond with his instrument that is fusional; a true means of expression, liberation, and abandonment, it will be an indispensable tool in his personal and artistic development.
Aware of the vital need music occupies in his life, he undertakes a bachelor's degree in classical piano interpretation at the Université de Montréal. After graduating in 2010, he also completes courses in harmony, writing, and conducting.
The artist cumulates years of experience as an accompanist for different artists of all styles. He organizes and supervises musical camps in addition to being artistic director and pianist for several vocal ensembles.
The pianist for the group Oktopus for more than nine years, he recorded two albums including LEVER L'ENCRE (winner of the Syli d’Or 2014) and HAPAX (nominated for a Juno for instrumental album of the year 2017). In addition to a Canadian and European tour, Oktopus brings him to participate in several festivals (Mondial des cultures, Festival de Jazz de Montréal, Festival du Mangeur de Lune in Alsace, etc).
As a singer-songwriter, he participates in competitions such as Ma première Place des Arts, la boîte à chanson de l'Assomption, MusiQualité and Chante en français. In 2018, he presents his first EP entitled "L'ÉCHASSIER", which includes five unique, colorful and moving pieces.
The year 2020 is off to a promising start; his EP "LÉONIDES" will be released shortly and will be presented in concert halls throughout the greater Montreal area. LÉONIDES is the first mini-album in a series of four that will be released at the rate of one mini-album per season during the years 2020 and 2021... THE CLIMATOLOGIST represents the culmination and achievement of his deep essence where he surrenders and abandons himself completely; a music vibrant filled with authenticity and palpable emotions, on the surface of the skin...
